Why they're at risk

Climate change is shrinking the alpine terrain snow leopards need, while conflict with livestock herders and poaching for fur continue to threaten remaining populations.

Wild facts

1
Its tail is nearly as long as its body; it's used for balance on steep cliffs and wrapped around its face like a scarf against the cold.
2
Can leap across gaps of more than 15 meters (about 50 feet) in a single bound.
3
Unlike other big cats, snow leopards can't roar. They chuff, mew, and growl instead.
